Mononoke the Movie: Chapter III - The Curse of the Serpent (2026)
Mononoke the Movie: Chapter III - The Curse of the Serpent (2026) follows the enigmatic Medicine Seller (Kusuriuri) as he investigates a terrifying spiritual disturbance tied to the dark legacy of a noble clan.
The story takes place in a secluded, rain-drenched estate where a series of horrific, snake-like deaths begin plagueing the prominent family. Victims are found with scale-patterned marks and frozen expressions of intense guilt and terror. Upon his arrival, the Medicine Seller senses the presence of a powerful Mononoke—a malicious spirit born from the fusion of a human grudge and a supernatural form.
As he begins unraveling the mystery, the Medicine Seller works to uncover the three essential elements required to unsheathe his exorcism sword:
Form (Katachi): The physical manifestation of the spirit, which takes the shape of a massive, shadowed serpent weeping tears of venom.
Truth (Makoto): The tragic reality behind the spirit's creation—a betrayal committed generations ago, where a silenced victim was wrongfully executed and buried beneath the estate to secure the clan's fortune.
Reason (Kotowari): The underlying emotional drive—the accumulated jealousy, rage, and shame passed down through the family line, which continually feeds the serpent's wrath.
With the estate transforming into a surreal, labyrinthine realm of shifting scales and water illusions, the Medicine Seller faces both the deadly venom of the serpent and the deceitful nature of the surviving family members who attempt to hide their ancestors' sins.
Once the full Makoto and Kotowari are exposed, the Medicine Seller unlocks his celestial Hyper Form. In a visually stunning climax, he cuts down the serpent spirit, purifying the cursed bloodline and releasing the trapped souls of the victims, restoring peace to the estate before silently departing into the mist.
